Here is your first glimpse inside Banksy's bemusement park Dismaland

Graffiti artist Banksy has unveiled his/her latest project - a pop-up theme park in Weston-super-Mare called 'Dismaland Bemusement Park.'

Locals had been told for months that the derelict site that used to home a seaside resort was being used as a film set, but on Wednesday the elaborate installations were revealed as a “festival of art, amusements and entry-level anarchism” curated by Banksy instead.

New work from the artist is on display as well as pieces from 46 other subversive artists including Damien Hirst, Jenny Holzer and Ed Hall.

The park's website says Dismaland boasts a 'Punch and Julie' show which has been updated by Julie Burchill to feature Jimmy Saville and Fifty Shades of Grey (...), and the chance to "navigate the high seas" full of asylum seekers on Banksy’s Mediterranean boat ride.

A press release given to journalists said that Banksy was inspired to create the park after peering through a gap in the fence at the site back in January. The old theme park, Tropicana, has been abandoned since the turn of the century.

Locals are getting the chance to see the park a day before tickets go on sale to the general public, from which legal representatives of the Walt Disney Corporation are strictly prohibited.

A statement from Banksy (who grew up in nearby Bristol) on Dismaland's Facebook page reads:

I loved the Tropicana as a kid, so getting to throw these doors open again is a real honour.

I hope everyone from Weston will take the opportunity to once more stand in a puddle of murky water eating cold chips to the sound of crying children.

Dismaland will also host evening performances from artists such as Massive Attack, Pussy Riot and Kate Tempest until the park closes on 27th September.

We predict you might need to sell a kidney to get hold of a ticket, but you can try your luck here.
