From Taylor Swift to Barack Obama, here's how celebrities reacted to Kamala Harris being picked for VP

It was confirmed on Tuesday evening that Kamala Harris will be Joe Biden's running mate for the 2020 US election.

The California senator was long considered to be the front-runner for the role, with even Donald Trump calling her his "number one draft pick" during a White House press conference.

Harris will now debate the current vice president, Mike Pence, on 7 October in Salt Lake City, Utah, which should be quite the spectacle as the Democrat has been a vocal supporter of police reform amid the Black Lives Matter protests.

Sarah Palin and Geraldine Ferraro are the only previous women to have been selected to be vice president and Harris is the first Black woman to be named as a potential VP and news of her name being added to the ballot has prompted jubilation from notable supporters of the Democrats, as well as some of their politicians.

Maya Rudolph, who has played Harris on Saturday Night Live, simply said "Oh s**t" after hearing the news, perhaps realising that she is going to be very busy in the coming months. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, she added:

I'm as surprised as you are, guys. That's spicy. I don't know that I'm ready to go right this minute, but it's so nice to have this nomination be associated with the show because it's my true love.

All we can do now is watch and wait to see how the Biden/Harris ticket will fare against Trump and Biden. Let the election begin...
