Game of Thrones fans respond to jokes about Kit Harington going into rehab

Following the Game of Thrones finale, reports emerged that star Kit Harington had checked into a “wellness retreat” to deal with issues related to “stress and alcohol”.

While fans were quick to share their support for the actor, there were some who couldn’t resist cracking Jon Snow-related quips and joking about about the TV show's ending - tasteless jokes that we're not going to share here, but are easy enough to find.

Many felt that making light of mental health and addiction was in terrible taste and reacted as you'd expect.

Some pointed out that the reaction was worrying proof on how much attitudes around mental health still need to change.

There were those who predictably came along touting freedom of speech, but they were swiftly reminded that while they could say what they liked, people could still call them out on it.

The 32-year-old actor has reportedly been at the Connecticut facility Privé-Swiss for about a month.

His agent released a statement this week, which said:

Kit has decided to utilise this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues.

His wife Rose Leslie, who played wildling Ygritte on series two to four of the show, is said to be "extremely supportive" of his decision.

According to PageSix, a close friend said:

The end of ‘GoT’ really hit Kit hard...He realised 'this is it — this is the end', it was something they had all worked so hard on for so many years. He had a moment of, 'what next'?

He’s in the clinic predominantly for stress and exhaustion and also alcohol.

Perhaps the whole episode will help to serve as a reality check for over-zealous fans slating the show's ending.
