Saying goodbye to Princess Leia in the new Star Wars trailer has people feeling emotional

The final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has dropped online.

The action-packed trailer for the last instalment in Disney’s newest trilogy gives us a glimpse into the drama in a galaxy far, far away.

There’s many parts of the trailer which have generated a huge response online – the return of iconic gold droid C-3PO being one of them.

But a particularly emotional moment features Princess Leia, played by the late Carrie Fisher. The film presumably sees Leia’s journey come to an end, given that Fisher passed away while the movie was filming.

Near the end of the trailer, a voice (which sounds a lot like Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker) says the iconic phrase “the force will be with you”. Fisher's voice eerily echoes in response:

Always

This moment has given a lot of fans the feels.

Princess Leia and Carrie Fisher have become an iconic symbol of feminism and liberation. Fisher might have passed away a couple of years ago, but people clearly aren’t ready to let her - or Leia - go.

If that wasn't sad enough, it turns out that the trailer was released on what would have been Carrie Fisher's birthday.

No, *you've* got something in your eye.
