A petition to make Princess Leia of Star Wars fame an official Disney Princess has passed over 94,000 signatures.
The change.org petition was set up following the death of Carrie Fisher, who portrays Leia in the iconic film franchise, and the 2012 acquisition of Star Wars by Disney from Lucasfilm.
The campaign was set up by Cody Christensen from Utah. It reads:
After the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney princess must be animated and make Leia a full-fledged princess.
What we are asking is that the Walt Disney Corporation hold a full ceremony inducting Leia as the newest Disney princess as well as a special service in memory of Carrie Fisher.
Carrie Fisher died in December of a heart attack and was laid to rest alongside her mother Debbie Reynolds, who passed away a day after Fisher.
Disney acquired the Star Wars franchise when it purchased Lucasfilm for $4 billion in 2012.
