The woman who created Friends has the perfect response to sexism

Marta Kauffman, co-creator of everyone's favourite show Friends, has revealed how she responds to workplace sexism. And it's brilliant.

Speaking at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas on Friday, Kauffman said that Friends had a "running misogyny issue," which began when one executive at the network was uncomfortable with a storyline in which Monica had casual sex.

“He was having trouble with Monica sleeping with a guy on the first date,” she recalled. In the episode the guy ends up lying to Monica about not being able to have sex since his wife left him in order to get her into bed.

Sadly, the executive had multiple objections over the years, which Kauffman said she had to do her best to work around. But in what deserves to become known as the Greatest Feminist Shut Down Of All Time, the showrunner sent her boss a surprise package.

He was a little hurt by something I said once. So, I sent him a basket of pantyhose, tampons, lip stick and nail polish.

I'll be there for you... unless you're an unrepentant sexist. Then you get a basket of lady things.
