A recent YouGov poll found that 12% of British men believe they could score a point in a tennis match against the woman with the most Grand Slam tournament wins in the Open Era, Serena Williams.
These men don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. This is setting aside the fact that one in eight British men probably don’t even play tennis.
Sometimes, just sometimes, the stars will align and you come up with the perfect riposte to a statement you know in your heart is nonsense. Better still, you’ll happen across footage from years earlier that precisely proves your point.
A video has surfaced online of the 23-time Grand Slam winner humiliating five men on a tennis court. It’s tremendously satisfying to watch, not least for the kind of trick shots John Virgo would be proud of.
One shot connects with a man’s leg and leaves him in agony, perhaps causing some of those polled to think again about their misplaced arrogance. The truth of the matter is that a double fault would be the only chance an amateur would have of winning a point and since Serena could reduce her speed drastically and still consistently ace a non-professional opponent, even that option is out the window.
If anyone was in any doubt about how wrong those over-confident men were, this video clears it up once and for all.
