A selection of irrational porn laws from around the world

Sometimes it is good to know that the British aren't the only ones.

Indonesia

Anti-pornography laws in Indonesia have been used to jail dancers in a nightclub, according to Reuters. The laws describe porn as "pictures, sketches, photos, writing, voice, sound, moving picture, animation, cartoons, conversation, gestures, or other communications shown in public with salacious content or sexual exploitation that violate the moral values of society".

South Korea

All pornography is illegal in South Korea - those who put porn online can face up to a year in prison.

Iraq

While porn is not censored in Iraq, in 2007, Al-Jazeera reported on a wave of violent vigilantes targeting those watching it. Some people were murdered for their viewing habits.

A spokesperson for the Iraqi Aid Association (IAA) said: "We have received information from many sources that militants are operating spies inside internet cafes just to find out who is browsing sites they have deemed offensive to Islam."

Japan

In Japanese pornograpy genitals are censored. In 2008 police arrested Katsumi Ono after he apparently released DVDs onto the market which had not been altered.

Uganda

Porn is defined as a cultural practice in Uganda and can include dance and music. Notably miniskirts are banned under anti-pornography legislation.

France

In 2002 France enacted laws to tax porn firms’ profits at 93 per cent as part of a crackdown.

Pakistan and Kenya

Both Pakistan and Kenya have anti-homosexuality laws. But they also have the highest number of people looking for gay porn online, according to Mother Jones research.
