Billy Idol was one of the biggest pop stars of the 1980s thanks to hits like 'Rebel Yell' and 'Dancing With Myself'.

Undoubtedly the biggest song that he ever released was the insanely catchy and cool 'White Wedding.'

Here it is again just in case you've forgotten what it sounds like.

Now, to yesterday's events and the royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

If you happened to be on twitter, there were lots of fun, jokes and memes being made about the special occasion.

Billy should have seen this as a perfect opportunity to not only wish Harry and Meghan all the best on their big day - but also make a reference to his most famous tune.

Did he do that? No. Instead, he put out this rather bland, nice and innocent tweet.

Two words: Epic. Fail.

Needless to say, a lot of people were very disappointed with this effort from the star and they let him know.

But was this all part of a huge plan from the musician?

After all, this viral tweet soon got people talking about him like it was 1983 all over again.

It would appear that others brought into that theory too.

Fortunately, once he had our attention he corrected his horrendous error with what he should have posted in the first place and everyone was delighted.

Ironically this tweet didn't get half as many retweets as the original did, which is kind of typical of 2018.

If only there was time to "start again..."
