The drink you should never, ever order on a flight

It's not the wine from a plastic cup that cerates your mouth and leaves you looking like the Joker.

Though that probably isn't fun either. Flight attendants have a lot of mess to deal with, and a lot of crabby passengers who fail to appreciate the fact that they're flying through the sky like a bird.

You might say 'It's their job', but they did show you where the exits were - they've saved your life (possibly), so you owe them one.

Here's how you can make your attendant's life that little bit easier.

Should you order a diet coke?

Order anything you like - a moist towel, the kosher meal, a second pizza roll, just maybe don't get a diet coke.

Writing on the blog These Gold Wings in 2013, the anonymous author revealed the technique needed for pouring.

Fizzy drinks generally cause problems because of the cabin pressure.

According to the blog's writer 'Jet', diet coke is the worst culprit and is incredibly time consuming to pour.

I literally have to sit and wait for the bubbles to fall before I can continue pouring. If all 3 passengers ask for diet coke I’ll often get them started, take another three drink orders, serve those, and then finish the diet cokes.

Is it even that big of a deal though?

However, in 2012 author and former flight attendant Heather Poole wrote that flight attendants don't care about the drink

In an article for Mental Floss, she had made similar points about pouring problems:

5. Diet Coke is our nemesis!

Of all the drinks we serve, Diet Coke takes the most time to pour — the fizz takes forever to settle at 35,000 feet. In the time it takes me to pour a single cup of Diet Coke, I can serve three passengers a different beverage. So even though giving cans to first-class passengers is a big no-no, you'll occasionally spy 12 ounces of silver trimmed in red sitting up there.

However, in a post on her own website she railed against the misconception that flight attendants 'hate' this.

Let me repeat, we do NOT hate serving Diet Coke. Nor do we hate serving passengers. Or even passengers in general. For the record, I drink Diet Coke both as a flight attendant and as a passenger.

Though reading her original post for mental floss, and an extract from her book, it does sound annoying to pour.
