This is why people are giving up masturbation for November

Forget growing a miniscule tash, this is the real sacrifice that you can engage in this month.

Sexual health platform NoFap.com is endorsing 'No Nut November', where participants abstain from masturbation for one month.

An anonymous spokesperson for NoFap told Newsweek;

NoFap isn’t looking to ban or legislate pornography, but we are looking to help raise awareness so that people can make an educated decision about their porn use.

Part of NoFap's ethos is to 'empower' people to be 'free from compulsive behaviour', this includes that solo time when you really should be getting out of bed/on your way to meet someone/doing literally anything else.

NoFap claims that research shows that frequent masturbation;

...can lead to brain changes in the same way that any addiction can. This can lead to sexual dysfunction and impaired quality of life.

According to Gay Star News, NoFap has over 200,000 members (dubbed 'Fapstronauts'). They claim being free of the impulse makes them more confident, more creative, and more sexually appealing to others.

Rather than the clipboard and 'GoFundMe' bureaucracy of Movember, no nutting has much less paperwork. It is more an informal collection of people trying to rid themselves of the compulsion, and sharing their new empowerment on social media.

'New Life November', run by NoFap is their official sponsoring of the month of abstinence.

Posting on Reddit, the group advertised a 'Reboot counter', so that participants could track their dry spell.

The supposed affects are unproven, and some doctors are sceptical.

Sex therapist Dr Chris Donaghue told Huffington Post that he advises the opposite.

Porn use and masturbation are a healthy counterbalance to our sex-phobic culture. Their existence is healthy and [liberating], and I don’t support any campaign or organization trying to shame or anthologise this healthy act.

If anything, the doctor advises;

I say, jerk off more, lots more!

Masturbation has multiple health benefits, including exercising pelvic muscles, releasing happy chemicals into the brain, and reducing the risk of prostate cancer.

But you should be free to do what you want, it's your body after all.
