Election results poured in on 7 November 2017, exactly a year after Donald Trump's shock electoral college victory over Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party.

This year, however, was rather different. In short, the Democrats were big winners, in what was widely interpreted as a bad night for the Republicans. It was perceived by pundit and voter alike as a backlash to President Trump and his politics.

People on Twitter saw it as a mobilisation of a votership counter to Trump in particular. An anti-Republican coming of age as it were.
