People are mistaking ‘H&M’ for the clothing brand after the Harry and Meghan interview

Twitter users have confused Harry and Meghan for a well-known clothing brand, after the abbreviation ‘H&M’ started trending on the social media platform on Tuesday.

It comes after the couple gave an exclusive and explosive interview with US broadcaster Oprah Winfrey about their experience with the royal family, which was broadcast on ITV on Monday night.

The programme saw the pair make several allegations about the institution, including the claim that ‘concerns’ were raised over the skin colour of their first child, Archie.

“So we had in tandem the conversation of [Archie] won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title, and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” she said.

Winfrey, stunned by the allegation, simply replied: “What? Who is having that conversation with you?”

As the reaction to the programme continues, people have taken to shortening ‘Harry and Meghan’ down to ‘H&M’ for ease.

Such a decision, however, has led to many having the same first impression after seeing it trending online:

Ru Paul’s Drag Race star Sum Ting Wong, meanwhile, seemed to be one of the first to joke about the abbreviation, who tweeted the following yesterday:

H&M – the clothes shop, that is – are yet to comment on the apparent confusion.
