If you've ever worried about what your partner thinks of your looks, we might have some good news for you.

It turns out the British are a pretty humble, generous lot.

Most coupled-up Brits think they are punching above their weight.

Yep, 56 per cent of those surveyed by YouGov think their partner is more attractive than them.

The largest chunk of participants (40 per cent) judged themselves to have average looks - which makes sense when you consider that a lot of people are going to be, well, about average.

A further 34 per cent consider themselves better-looking than most, rating themselves between 6 and 10 out of 10.

Only 2 per cent awarded themselves full marks for physical attractiveness.

But - in a bout of uncharacteristic bad luck for the absolutely gorgeous among us - the survey also found that only one in eight say their ideal partner would have 'perfect' looks.

Younger people feel best about their appearance, with 37 per cent of 18-24 year olds judging themselves a 6 or 7. Sadly, this drops with age with only 18 per cent of over 54s rating themselves about a 5.

Thankfully, there are other ways to charm your partner. Like your kindness, intelligence and wit. Or dodgy hypnotism.
