Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling has revealed her 'favourite' fan theory about everyone's favourite headteacher, professor Dumbledore.

Seventeen years since the first film was released, people really can't get enough of the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Fans and theorists to this day spend time cooking up new theories.

Over the years fans have come up with a theory about Albus Dumbledore.

In the film and book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, they tell a story about three brothers, called, get this, the "Tale of Three Brothers".

If you're unfamiliar, in the story, three brothers happen upon a river too dangerous to traverse. Using their magic they summon a bridge and cross the water, but this prompts the hooded figure of Death to appear.

Death feels slighted that the brothers 'cheated' him and proceeds to try and trick them.

Death feigns being impressed by the brothers and offers them each a prize of their choosing. The first brother asks for a powerful wand (the Elder Wand), the second brother asks for a resurrection stone to have power to bring people back from the dead, while the third brother, conscious of Death's ulterior motive - asks for the invisibility cloak.

Two of the brothers die, but the third lives a long life, hands over the invisibility cloak to his son, before greeting 'Death as an old friend'.

A fan theory suggests that Voldemort represents the first brother, Snape is a representation of the second and third is believed to be Harry Potter.

If you subscribe to the three representations, then it seems to suggest that the only one who could be Death is professor Dumbledore.

In the first book, Dumbledore gives Harry an invisibility cloak, which is claimed to have been passed down by his father James Potter.

The cloak is accompanied by a note, which reads: 'Your father left this in my possession when he died. It is time it was returned to you. Use it well.'

To further support the Dumbledore=Death theory; in the Deathly Hallows film, Harry is shot at with a killing curse and he enters King's Cross Station to be greeted by Dumbledore as an 'old friend'.

It certainly makes some amount of sense, as wild fan theories go at least, and it was given even more love once J.K. Rowling tweeted it was her favourite:
