In the latest example of the crackdown on freedoms in Egypt, a woman has been arrested for making a music video.
The homemade tongue-in-cheek video Sib Eddi, or Hands Off, features fully-clothed booty-shaking by Reda el-Fouly, who dances and mimes to the voice of singer Mena.
After El-Fouly and her boyfriend posted the video online Egyptian authorities soon took offence: the Associated Press reports that she was arrested for “inciting debauchery” and referred to a misdemeanour court. It isn’t clear what penalties she could be facing.
A warrant is out for El-Fouly’s boyfriend Wael Elsedeki and the third person featured in the video. Elsedeki is thought to have left for Tunisia after social media users starting criticising the video as “scandalous".
Ahmed Bakly of the Giza prosecution meanwhile said in a statement that the video "disrupted morality."
