Former Fox News host says shootings in Las Vegas are 'the price of freedom'

Disgraced former Fox News host Bill O'Reilly has said that the mass shooting in Las Vegas is the 'price of freedom'.

The 68-year-old was once the scion of the right, eviscerating liberals on his nightly programme The O'Reilly Factor.

In a post on his blog on Monday, O'Reilly said the killing of 59 people by gunman Stephen Paddock was 'the price of freedom'.

This is the price of freedom. Violent nuts are allowed to roam free until they do damage, no matter how threatening they are.

The Second Amendment is clear that Americans have a right to arm themselves for protection.  Even the loons. 

He argued that gun restrictions will not stop 'psychopaths' from harming people.

In the first line of the post, O'Reilly understates the scale of what happened in Las Vegas when he calls it 'the big downside' of American freedom.

The freedom he refers to is laid out in the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, passed in 1791 and is more commonly known as the 'right to bear arms'. It reads:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

O'Reilly's comments fired up many people online.
