Jaden Smith was this month named the face of Louis Vuitton's S/S16 women's wear collection.
But. Wait. Hold on a second. The last thing we heard from him he was making bizarre comments about mirrors not being real because "our eyes aren't real" and quitting Twitter.
Is it the same boy? And how did the universe create a real life person who comes out with such brilliant thinking as "I don't think I'm as revolutionary as Galileo, but I don't think I'm not as revolutionary as Galileo,"?
Here's a brief history of how he happened...
The Pursuit of Happiness, 2006
Our first exposure to Jaden was his role in the critically acclaimed film The Pursuit of Happiness. Jaden received rave reviews for his performance, which might be where the problem started...
Justin Bieber collaboration, 2010
If experiencing the limelight from childhood wasn't what created Jaden Smith then perhaps exposure to Justin Bieber at such an impressionable age is to blame. Their collab, Never Say Never, features some classic lines like.. "Be trying a chill. They be trying to sour the thrill. No pun intended, was raised by the power of Will."
New York Times Interview, 2014
Jaden and his sister Willow gave a joint interview to the New York Times's T Magazine. Their answers, which included gems like "School is not authentic because it ends. It’s not true, it’s not real. Our learning will never end. The school that we go to every single morning, we will continue to go to" prompted Vice to have their answers examined by a philosopher. The philosopher concluded that they "sound like they're pretty well educated, if a little New Age-y."
Jaden wears a skirt in public, 2015
Jaden wore a skirt out and about and the world went mad, despite the fact that he had always been experimental with fashion. Jaden responded by posting the comment "I Went To Topshop To Buy Some Girls Clothes. I Mean Clothes.
Prom, 2015
In 2015 Jaden accompanied Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg to her prom. Jayden wore a dress, continuing the trend he started when he debuted a skirt. Stenberg wore a dress too and from their Instagrams it seems like they had a lovely time.
GQ Interview, 2015
Jaden gave another interview in 2015, this time without Willow. And it was everything we hoped it would be. Speaking about how he sees his future developing, Jaden commented “It'll be kind of like Banksy. But in a different way. More of a social impact. Helping people. But through art installations. It'll be like, ‘This just happened that helped a bunch of people over here. We don't know who did it, but these symbols and things were left around, so we can only guess that it's Jaden and the squad.’ You know what I'm saying? So I'm just dedicating my whole life to helping the world.”
Right.
Becomes the face of Louis Vuitton, 2016
On the 3rd of January it was announced that Jaden Smith was the face of Louis Vuitton's S/S16 campaign.
Obviously the internet went in to overdrive with think-pieces about what it means for a boy to be the face of a woman's clothing line. Jaden was surprisingly quiet on the topic, though if he does come out with any brilliant Jaden-osophy on the matter we'll be the first to let you know.
Otherwise, we'll leave you with some of Jaden's Twitter wisdom.
