Seventeen years is the longest I have ever - in my life - held a job, by 16 years and five months.
So said Jon Stewart as he announced his decision to leave The Daily Show in front of a live studio audience on Tuesday.
Delivering the news, Stewart said the show did not deserve a host who was "even slightly restless".
Banging his hands on the desk in front of him, a clearly emotional Stewart added: "You get in this business with the idea that maybe you have a point of view and something to express, and maybe you receive feedback. That is the greatest feeling you can ask for and I thank you."
Stewart said there is no timetable in place for his exit yet, and he has no "specific plans" for his next project. Watch his announcement below:
