Reese Witherspoon’s daughter says gender is ‘whatever’ after being asked about her sexuality

Reese Witherspoon’s daughter Ava Phillippe doesn’t feel the need to put a label on her sexuality.

The 22-year-old - whose parents are Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe - recently opened up about her dating preferences on Instagram.

In response to a fan's question on her Instagram that asked her if she likes “boys or girls,” Phillippe responded by saying that "I'm attracted to… people! (Gender is whatever)” alongside a photo of herself smiling.

This candid discussion about gender and sexuality is the first time she’s shared her approach to dating.

Currently, Phillippe is dating one of her fellow UC Berkeley students named Owen Mahoney for two years.

Phillippe keeps most of her relationship offline, although she occasionally shares a photo of the two on her social media page.

She is the eldest child of Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, and a big sister to 18-year old Deacon Reese Phillippe.

In November, Witherspoon opened up in conversation with InStyle about her children.

The Legally Blonde star admitted that it was an “odd situation” having her kids grow up famous, which differs from her own experience.

“It’s an odd situation because I didn’t grow up famous. So [Ava is] living an experience that I did not have, and so are my sons,” the actress said. “We are lucky enough to have friends who grew up in Hollywood and can help give them advice on how to navigate,” Witherspoon said.

The supportive mother also shared her excitement for having her kids find their own truth. “Ava is so down-to-earth. She wants to do great things in the world,” Witherspoon said. “She’s studying and learning and trying to find herself. It’s a big thing in life to try different things and figure out what is really your path.”
