There's a great and frequently documented disparity between the US and the UK.

To separate the nations wholly is to generalise. But sometimes sweeping statements give us that neat categorisation and stereotyping we all secretly desire.

Recently, the difference between how people see US President Barack Obama and UK Prime Minister David Cameron was made apparent.

Now, the way in which the two nations handle criminals has been compared in a similar marriage of tweets.

Yes. In the story on the left, we see a typical American story.

The story on KTLA begins:

A 9-year-old girl missing for more than a week was found in a remote section of east Tennessee by two men who held her suspected captor at gunpoint until police arrived, authorities said Thursday.

A young girl went missing, but was rescued by a farmer and a vicar, who found her, caught the alleged criminal, and used guns. Sounds like an action movie.

In London, meanwhile, 19-year-old George Zelonka fought off a knife-wielding burglar with a brolly the other day.

Sounds more like a comedy film.
