Donald Trump Jr responded to a two-year-old tweet from representative Ilhan Omar on Monday in which he claims she thinks that 'American troops are killers', but he's got totally shredded online.

In the tweet, he wrote:

Is the media going to ask every Democrat if they agree with Ilhan Omar that American troops are killers?!?

Erm, we hate to break it to you Donnie, but one of the main purposes of any country's troops and army is, well, using armed force in military operations, which often entails shooting guns at the enemy, which also often entails, well, killing.

Needless to say, Twitter was full of people telling Trump Jr. what US troops are actually doing.

What do you think they're doing with their guns?

Hate to break it to you, troops do killing.

Ever signed up yourself, Donnie?

The Twitter spat was started in October 2017, when the then Minnesota senator Al Franken tweeted about the Mogadishu bombings in Somalia, which claimed the lives of at least 587 people, and is still to this day the fourth deadliest terrorist attack in the world, reports the Free Press Journal.

In response to the tweet, a social media user said:

Actually, the worst terrorist attack in Somalia history was the Battle of Mogadishu- 19 US Armed Forces dead and 73 wounded.

Ilhan Omar responded by screenshotting the tweet, and saying:

In his selective memory, he forgets to also mention the thousands of Somalis killed by the American forces that day! #NotTodaySatan

This isn't the first time the Trump dynasty has attempted to trade blows with Ilhan Omar on Twitter. On 12 April, Trump shared an edited video of Ilhan Omar delivering a speech at the Council on American-Islamic Relations interspersed with images of 9/11.

Alongside the footage, he said:

WE WILL NEVER FORGET!

Many people in the Democratic party have attempted to defend Omar over the increasingly prevalent attacks from the right, including House speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, who said she is:

A leader with strength and courage.
