The conclusion of the Stanford rape case has caused mass outrage.

Student Brock Turner was given an unusually lenient prison sentence of six months after two witnesses saw him raping an unconscious woman in January 2015. He was found guilty of three sexual assault counts.

The defence was condemned for its victim blaming, and Turner’s own father was quoted to have said his son shouldn’t have gone to prison for “20 minutes of action.

Brock’s childhood friend Leslie Rasmussen said in a letter to Judge Persky, the presiding judge on the case:

I don’t think it’s fair to base the fate of the next ten 10 years of his life on the decision of a girl who doesn’t remember anything but the amount she drank to press charges against him. I am not blaming her directly for this, because that isn’t right.

This is completely different from a woman getting kidnapped and raped as she is walking to her car in a parking lot. That is a rapist. These are not rapists. These are idiot boys and girls having too much to drink and not being aware of their surroundings and having clouded judgement.

The issue of consent has become a controversial topic, with some claiming that the “truth” of the matter is that there are criminals, and certain things encourage criminals to be bad.

The rest make their intent easier. A short skirt, alcohol, and being alone especially.

In light of these arguments, indy100 presents the following pie chart, which has been shared hundreds of thousands of times in the last 48 hours, explaining in a crystal clear manner – exactly what the cause of rape is:

While the origin of the chart is unknown, the message is painfully simple: the cause of rape? Rapists.

Period.
