We've heard some funny jumps of logic from the Republican party in order to defend Donald Trump, but this one really has to take the biscuit.

This time, senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota has attempted to argue that the fact that Trump issued alleged hush payments to women shows that he loves his family very much.

Yes, really.

Speaking live on CNN, senator Rounds said:

I honestly think this president loves his family, and I think it has as much to do with trying not to have public discussions that for him is a private matter.

Right, sure.

Journalist Aaron Rupar noticed the clip, and called it out on Twitter.

Posting the segment, he accompanied it with the words:

Beyond belief -- @SenatorRounds says Trump's hush payments to women are actually evidence of how much he loves his family.

Many people on Twitter were quick to call out this illogical argument.

Others highlighted the 'acrobatics' involved in attempting to argue for the take.

Some thought the take was actually pretty highly believable.

Another spelled it out.

Double standards much?
