Trump staying at US ambassador's home overlooked by London Centre Mosque during state visit

Over the next three days of his state visit, Donald Trump will be staying at the US Ambassador's residence Winfield House in Regent's Park, which also happens to be overlooked by the London Central Mosque.

Mr Trump began his controversial stay in the United Kingdom this morning when he landed at Stansted Airport at approximately 9am. During his stay, he will enjoy a banquet hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace, attend talks with prime minister Theresa May, and he will attend a D-Day commemoration event in Portsmouth.

A ring of steel has been put in place around the US Ambassador's residence in Regent's Park, as well as a raft of strict security measures. The president will also enjoy the protection of state-of-the-art security equipment, in addition to his own heavily armoured car, which has been dubbed 'the Beast'.

Social media users were quick to pick up on the fact that the Ambassador's residence is overlooked by the London Central Mosque, and thought the whole thing was pretty hilarious, considering the fact Trump instigated a 'travel ban', which became known as a 'Muslim ban', as one of his first directives when he became president of the United States.

The original ban, officially called Executive Order 1379, went into effect in January 2017, and barred people from seven majority-Muslim countries - Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan and Libya - from entering the US for 90 days, reports the BBC.

Taking to Twitter, Aleem Maqbool wrote:

POTUS coming in to land at Winfield House, his base for the next couple of days. The minaret of London’s Central Mosque to the left....

Many others were quick to chime in, noticing with relish that it is soon Eid.
