Piers Morgan responded to the celebrity boycott of Facebook and Instagram in the most Piers Morgan way possible.

The controversial broadcaster slammed “sanctimonious” celebrities for planning a one day boycott of Facebook and Instagram.

In an op-ed for The Daily Mail, the free speech advocate called on Facebook to ban the group if they didn’t continue posting.

He wrote:

If I were Zuckerberg, I’d call their sanctimonious bluff and announce that any of the stars involved who don’t start posting again by 6 p.m. tonight will be permanently banned from Facebook and Instagram.

Morgan accused the celebrities of “trying to use their celebrity power to bull and shame” Facebook, “a company that defends free speech a hell of a lot more than they do.”

He even went in on Kim Kardashian West, calling her a “reality TV wastrel”. Poor Kim.

Joining Kardashian West in taking a 24-hour break from the platforms are the likes of Sacha Baron Cohen, Amy Schumer and Kerry Washington. They’re protesting Facebook’s failure to control misinformation and hate speech.

But Piers Morgan isn’t alone in thinking that a one day boycott is ridiculous.

Morgan also wrote in his op-ed:

Even by the standards of celebrity virtue-signalling during this pandemic-ridden year, the new Facebook/Instagram boycott seems particularly pointless and self-serving.

We look forward to seeing whether the one day break from Facebook does have an impact – but we won’t hold our breaths.
