A strangely transfixing timelapse video of artists pouring paint


Watching paint dry may be the height of tedium but watching different shades of it flowing slowly over blocks of wood is strangely transfixing.

New York-based artist Holton Rower has made a name from these "pour paintings". He and his team pour different types of paint onto a canvas that is shaped with blocks of wood - the result is a set of intriguing and hypnotic patterns.

To capture this process in action, film-maker Dave Kaufman shot timelapse footage of Rower and his team making three artworks. Although it was first filmed in 2010, the video has recently been shared widely on Reddit and Rower continues to create new works, which can be seen on his website and on Facebook:
