Another day, another misguided tweet from someone in the British media.

Following the protests in London for a second referendum on the UK’s relationship with the European Union – supported by the Independent as part of its Final Say campaign – Twitter has been flooded with opinions on the biggest peaceful protest since the Iraq war marches.

Presenter and columnist Adam Boulton has put his foot in it, with a tweet that many people interpreted as encouraging riots.

The commentator’s supposed insinuation that riots are the only way to bring about real change has been condemned and mocked in equal measure.

Though Boulton has addressed the controversy, saying he was merely observing and was not in any way advising supporters of a second referendum to partake in rioting. Glad we've cleared that up.
