Brexiteer uses same arguments for Scottish independence to say they should stay in the UK

LBC presenter Maajid Nawaz has called out a Brexiteer who believes that Scotland is better off remaining within the United Kingdom.

Speaking to Nawaz, caller Malcolm said that Scotland needed to work with the rest of the UK after leaving the European Union in order to "expand our trade". Speaking to the caller, Nawaz said:

Are you not worried that if we leave with no-deal, we end up breaking up the union of the United Kingdom?

In response, the caller replied:

I do not believe that if there was another referendum in Scotland that they would vote to leave the UK.

However, in response to further grilling on why he actually wanted Brexit to happen, the caller's arguments began to fall apart. When questioned on where the funding would come from, he said:

The funding that comes from Westminster is generous and I believe that once we get out of the EU we need the Scots to work with us to expand our trade as they've always done for the last thousand years.

But, Nawaz again challenged this idea, retorting:

That's what Brussels says about the European Union.

When Malcolm replied that:

Hang on a minute, it's our money that they are handing to Scotland.

In response, Nawaz pointed out that it's the exact same argument that Scots use about Westminster. Summing up his argument, he concluded:

That's what the Scots say about Westminster handing money to them, they say it's our money you took in the first place from the north sea oil.

Can you not see how your arguments are precisely a mirror of Scottish independence?

Ouch, we think that qualifies as a first-class burn.
