By now you’d think people would have learned that we never know what someone is going through.

But apparently not.

Rapper Consequence recently opened up about the impact body shaming had on him, as he revealed he’d been diagnosed with lupus and diabetes.

Posting on Twitter and Instagram, Consequence wrote about how it felt to have cruel comments directed at him, as he privately dealt the twin diagnosis.

“I was body shamed when I posted this pic on 08.17.20,” the musician, who mentored Kanye West, wrote, alongside a picture of himself celebrating his son’s birthday, looking noticeably thin.

Consequence continued:

I was approx 113 lbs. And some a**hole said I looked like “an old junkie”.

Lupus + Diabetes had been kicking my a** for 7 months straight

But...

Oddly enough I was getting better as 2 weeks before that I was 105 lbs and my sugar was in the 500’s from being on steroids

But I was determined to wish my son @caiden817 Happy Birthday

Because, as you can see, it could have been the last time.

In subsequent posts, Consequence also thanked Kanye West and Kim Kardashian for helping him find the doctors who correctly diagnosed him.

In an interview with TMZ, the rapper said he wanted to raise awareness among men about the diseases, particularly lupus.

“I only knew the stereotype [about lupus] which is that it was something that affected predominantly Black females,” he told the news site this week.

“So when I was diagnosed, I was like ‘OK, I have a nine-year-old son’ and he might not have said it out loud but I know at one point he thought he thought he might have to say goodbye.

“That’s a lot for a child to have to deal with.

“We want to be smarter in our decision making and the only way we can do that is through information and consumption of knowledge.

“So I would absolutely love to be a conduit as my journey for those who may be where I’m at or a couple of steps behind me”.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can cause intense fatigue alongside the inflammation of joints and vital organs.

It can be life-threatening and requires treatment depending on its severity.
