Being on quarantine has the potential to be the most boring experience in the world.

Anyone who’s been locked away with chickenpox as a child knows that.

Now, imagine you’re a resident in one of the 10 Chinese cities where the entire population has been put into lockdown to try and limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Around nine million people alone in Wuhan, China are being advised to stay indoors and are not allowed to leave the city.

Reports by those inside the quarantine zone also say that the government has cancelled all entertainment shows on TV and instead are showing round the clock news coverage dedicated to virus updates.

Not only are conditions stoking anxiety, they’re also making people incredibly bored.

But some people are taking to social media sites like Weibo to keep spirits high via – what else – light-hearted videos showing what people are up to during the quarantine.

Journalist and social media trend watcher Manya Koetse documented some of the most popular clips in a thread.

There was the person who made their own company… Out of a sock.

The flat who decided to impulsively hold the Beijing Olympics early.

And people keeping up morale by singing to each other from across the city.

But maybe the prize for the most resilient residents goes to these party people, who managed to hold a social gathering across rooftops, despite the lockdown.

It may be a bleak time for those who remain under quarantine but at least spirits remain unbroken.
