'Courageous' Rotherham report confronts awful truth

The horrific abuse of 1,400 children in a single town over a 16-year period by gangs of Asian men went on partly because council staff were scared of being accused of racism, a report said yesterday.

Writing in The Independent, columnist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown commented on the abuse in Rotherham:

Grooming gangs are made up of all races and classes. Yes racists will have further ammunition after this report. Blame those who did what they did, not those who are brave and just enough to expose them.

I will always fight for the rights of minorities. But I will not defend the indefensible.
