Your latest news in Donald Trump vs. The Media: POTUS launched his own survey into mainstream media accountability.

It went about as well as you might expect.

(Although he did actually spell mainstream correctly, this time.)

The 'Mainstream Media Accountability Study', published by Trump's campaign website on Tuesday, is primarily aimed at Trump supporters.

It also features such inherently biased questions as:

  • Do you believe that the mainstream media has reported unfairly on our movement?
  • On which issues does the mainstream media do the worst job of representing Republicans?
  • Do you believe that political correctness has created biased news coverage on both illegal immigration and radical Islamic terrorism?
  • Were you aware that a poll was released revealing that a majority of Americans actually supported President Trump's temporary restriction executive order?

Note: leading questions, unrepresentative polling sample (his own email list), exclusion of print media, self-reinforcement, no demographics.

Poll fail.

We're not entirely sure what Trump hoped to achieve with this, except maybe to indulge in a little echo-chamber validation.

But whatever Trump's motives, it has unsurprisingly backfired.

People took to Twitter to encourage non-Trump supporters to fill out the survey, in an attempt to balance out the answers.

Note: the poll asks for your name, email address, zip code and requests a donation. Just in case you were considering it.

Communications strategist Katie Wohlgenant, of Chicago, told The A. V. Club that the survey could also be a list-building technique, and that trolling Trump by filling it in could actually benefit him.

They only want to add people to his email list... HE IS USING YOUR OUTRAGE TO LIST-BUILD FOR HIMSELF. STOP. FALLING. FOR. IT.

The more people on a list = the more $$$ it costs candidates to rent said list...  You're just lining the Trump campaign's pockets for 2020 by padding the list and making it more desirable.

But the temptation may prove too great for some, as inevitably Trump was enraged.

His campaign later sent out a plea to take the "urgent" survey, saying that:

Mainstream media outlets have viciously attacked it... and thousands of Democrats have taken it to try to sabotage the results.

Which is why we need your IMMEDIATE help as one of President Trump's biggest supporters.

So to summarise:

  • Trump furious at the media for doing their job and reporting, and at unwanted poll results showing him to be one of the most unpopular President in history.
  • His team puts out a survey asking people what they think of the media, filled with very leading questions to get the response they want.
  • People respond to survey as they see fit, media reports it.
  • Trump furious at the media for doing their job and reporting, and at unwanted poll results.

We've hit peak Meta-Trump...
