Donald Trump Jr has stooped to an all-time low, after appearing to joke about the Native American genocide on social media, and people are raging.
The president’s eldest son responded to a tweet by his father, which mocks Senator Elizabeth Warren (again), calling her “Pocahontas” and writing that he will see her on the “campaign TRAIL” – with the latter potentially referring to the Trail of Tears, which were a series of forced relocations of Native Americans from their ancestral lands in the 1800s that led to thousands of deaths.
On an Instagram post late on Saturday night, Trump Jr screenshotted his father’s tweet, simply writing:
Savage!!! Love my President
He wrote a similar caption on Twitter:
While it was first unclear whether the president was actually referring to the Trail of Tears in his tweet, his son's response seems to confirm that it was. It is only natural that many took to social media to express their anger.
Trump is known to be a fan of the 7th president of the United States, Andrew Jackson, who was in support of removing Native Americans from the homeland. The president travelled to Jackson's tomb in Tennessee after being sworn in, put a portrait of him in the Oval Office and often refers to him in his tweets.
