If you think memes are meaningless and silly, that’s probably because they are. But now America has a President who could accidentally cause World War Three, they can at least offer some well-needed relief from it all.

The only problem is that Donald Trump memes are a lot like White House scandals at the moment – there are so many happening, and in so many different forms, it’s hard to know where to start.

With this in mind, here is a rundown of the best memes to emerge since Trump became President.

Trump writes his inaugural speech

The photo Trump used to announce he was writing his inauguration speech is very odd. In it, he sits holding a sharpie and a pad of paper. His facial expression is a strange mix between gazing out into the distance and trying to look tough. Has he just realised that he's now the most powerful person on earth and has no idea what he's doing? Who knows.

By using such a staged image, and leaving so much to the imagination (what's actually on his pad of paper?) Trump should have known he was making himself a target for some high-quality memeing.

Trump Draws

So far Trump’s executive orders have broadly been a mix of terrifying, horrifying and scary. The worst has been his attempt to block all immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries, with what has become known as a “Muslim ban”.

After Trump signed a raft of orders on the National Security Council and lobbying at the end of his first week, he proudly displayed it to the press.

This quickly became a very good meme indeed:

For someone people are calling the “first meme president”, it’s weird Trump didn’t see this happening.

Trump’s handshake

As we all know, Trump is a businessman first and foremost. Deals are his thing. He likes making them so much, he even got someone to ghostwrite a bests-elling book for him called “Art of the Deal”.

So it’s not surprising he has a special, alpha male handshake for his rivals. The only thing is, it’s also an especially weird handshake, and one ripe for memeing.

It came to widespread attention when Trump pulled it on his Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.

And it continued with Japan PM Shinzo Abe. As you can see, Trump deploys a "yank and pull" manoeuvre:

The Trump handshake meme machine went into overdrive this week when Trump met with Justin Trudeau.

To everyone's delight, the Canadian PM managed to see off Trump's yank at first.

Then Trudeau made it look like he wasn't going to take part at all (shortly after this well-time photo was taken, he did)

As people have pointed out, Trudeau has been preparing for the handshake all his life:

President Trump has actually yanked enough people's arms now to warrant a compilation video:
