Once again, former President Donald Trump is causing a Twitter stir, after Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) posted a photo of Trump accepting the “Champion of Freedom Award” at a Republican National Committee gathering over the weekend.

There’s just one problem - they just made up the award and everyone’s mocking it as a participation trophy.

Donning his infamous “MAGA” hat, Trump stands awkwardly beside the Florida senator, holding what appears to be a small metal bowl.

In a statement on their website, the National Republican Senatorial Committee said the award is for “conservative leaders who have worked tirelessly to create good jobs, protect the values that make our country great, and stop the Democrats’ socialist agenda.”

“President Trump fought for American workers, secured the border, and protected our constitutional rights,” Scott - a NRSC chairman - said. “We are grateful for his service to our country and are honored to present him with the NRSC’s first Champion for Freedom award.”

The award’s presentation follows shortly after Trump criticized Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, referring to the Senate GOP leader a “dumb son of a b*tch” and “stone cold loser.” The two have not spoken since McConnell condemned Trump for inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection.

Users on Twitter were quick to mock both Scott and Trump, calling the award ceremony “ridiculous.”

“What a disgusting joke,” one user wrote.

“Fought for American workers by putting 30 million of them out of work by utterly botching the pandemic response. Secured the border by separating children from their families like a sadistic monster. Protected our constitutional rights by trying to overturn a fair election,” wrote another.
