An alligator tried to enter a Florida church, so the pastor attempted to baptise it

When one Florida church was visited by an alligator, the pastor decided to snap up the opportunity to invite it in and baptise it.

Speaking to NBC2 News, Daniel Gregory, lead pastor of Victory Church, said he was informed about the 4ft gator’s arrival on Tuesday afternoon by one of the church’s daycare workers.

“He’s coming to church, get ready,” Gregory said in a recorded video, before admitting to the news station that he went to do “what I probably shouldn’t do and go take a selfie with it.”

“He came to our church, so I don’t know what his spiritual condition is. I need to invite this gator to church.”

At one point, he tells others getting close to the animal that “he just needs Jesus, guys!”

Completely unphased by the reptile, he got closer and attempted to hand the beast his business card.

“We have services at 9am and 11am Sunday mornings. You want to check us out,” the pastor can be heard asking the animal.

Of course, the alligator didn’t take up the offer – because it’s an alligator.

Apparently, it later scurried back into the storm drain it emerged from after the pastor attempted to baptise it.

“He didn’t seem to be interested,” Gregory said.

Obviously, authorities discourage anyone from doing what the pastor did.

Adam Brown, from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, told NBC2 News: “We certainly encourage the viewing aspect of it, but we never want you to approach a wild animal like that. it could be very dangerous.

“There’s no reason to take a chance,” he said.
