Fox News host fact-checks former Republican congressman over migrant caravan claims

A Fox News host fact-checked former Republican congressman Jason Chaffetz on a live segment, after attacking the Democrats over the migrant caravan.

During a heated debate, Marie Harf, a political commentator for the news channel, interrupts Chaffetz to say: “When you say things that aren’t accurate on TV, I’m going to interrupt you.”

The segment followed a televised clash between Democratic senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, Democratic house minority leader Nancy Pelosi, President Trump and vice-president Mike Pence (who didn’t say much) on Tuesday.

The leaders were discussing the funding the for the border wall, with Trump threatening to shut down the government if it was refused.

Responding to the heated debate, Chaffetz – who was congressman between 2009 and 2017 – claimed the Democrats didn’t want to fix border security. He said:

I don’t buy the democrats on wanting to secure the border. They wanted to shut down ICE, they were encouraging on the caravan

But before he can continue, Harf interrupts him saying: “That’s not true. Neither of those things are true. When you say things that aren’t accurate on TV, I’m going to interrupt you.”

As he tries to get a word in, she continues:

The democratic caucus does not support shutting down ICE. Individuals members talk about it, the caucus does not. Second, the Democratic Party is not supporting the caravan

That is a conspiracy theory that has been repeatedly debunked online

Do not repeat it for out viewers please

As tensions rise, Chaffetz pushes back, starting to say: "Well, I wholeheartedly believe, in my heart ... there is evidence."

But Harf fires back again:

There is no evidence. in your heart you might feel that [but] there's no evidence. No evidence, no evidence. None. None

Standing her ground throughout the entire segment, it was impossible for Chaffetz to say anything back – she left him stumped.
