Here's how Sierra Leone celebrated the release of its last Ebola patient

The release of Sierra Leone's last Ebola patient has been met with joyful celebration in a country which has been under the grip of the disease for the past 18 months.

Adama Sankoh, who contracted the disease from her son who died last month, was discharged from a hospital in Mateneh village on Monday.

Her release began a 42-day countdown to the country being declared free of the virus that has killed nearly 4,000 people in the country.

However, president Ernest Bai Koroma warned that the Ebola fight is "not yet over".

Nevertheless, the people of Sierra Leone are full of joy at the country's progress.

Medical staff at the Ebola treatment centre in Mateneh, near the town of Makeni, were seen singing and dancing upon Sankoh's release.

If Sierra Leone passes the 42-day test, it will leave just one country - Guinea - with the disease which has killed more than 11,000 people in West Africa.
