‘It doesn’t help to scream over people’: Jen Psaki shuts down reporter’s abortion question

Jen Psaki did not hold back at Wednesday’s press briefing after the White House press secretary shut down a reporter who forcefully pressed her on abortion rights.

Psaki told EWTN Washington correspondent Owen Jensen, “It doesn’t help to scream over people”, moments after she had answered his question.

“Jen, what is the White House reaction to the Hyde Amendment being included in the $3.5 trillion budget resolution?” Jensen asked, in reference to the resolution that was passed Wednesday morning.

The Hyde amendment bars the use of federal funds to pay for abortion except to save the life of the woman.

“I don’t think I’m going to negotiate from here. The president’s position on Hyde is well known, and we’ve stated many times publicly,” Psaki responded. Jenson tried to continue the conversation, but Psaki cut him off with, “I think we’re going to move on.”

A persistent Jensen asked again, “Can we follow up on that please?”

“I think we’re going to move on so we can get some more people,” Psaki said. Just as Jensen proceeded, she shut him down.

In April, Jensen fired away with questions on President Joe Biden’s reversal of former President Donald Trump’s policies on abortion.

“So today, as you all know, the Biden administration and HHS started the reversal of the Trump administration’s ban on abortion referrals at Title X family planning clinics,” Jensen said, and asked, “So my first question, why does the Biden administration insist that pro-life Americans pay for abortions and violate their conscience?”

“Well, first, that’s not an accurate depiction of what happens. And I know we want to be accurate around here,” Psaki said, then broke down the law that forbids Title X funds from being used “in programs where abortion is a method of family planning.”
