The casting of Johnny Depp in the next Fantastic Beasts film has attracted widespread criticism among Harry Potter fans.
The next instalment of the wizarding spin off series is titled Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Depp is playing the titular villain, Gellert Grindelwald.
Recent revelations regarding his relationship with former wife Amber Heard have severely tarnished Depp's reputation.
In 2016, Heard filed for divorce and obtained a restraining order against the actor after she alleged he had been physically and psychologically abusive to her.
Around that period, Peoplemagazine published pictures of bruises that Depp had allegedly inflicted on Heard.
An eventual settlement was reached between the two parties, with a domestic violence case against Depp being dismissed, as reported by Variety.
This historic controversy, coupled with the string of sexual harrasment scandals that are emerging from Hollywood, has meant that Mr Depp's presence in the much loved movies has angered many fans.
Fans have even suggested that studio bosses should replace Depp.
Depp does have some ardent fans, and they weren't afraid to voice their support for the 54-year-old.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is due for release in November 2018 and will also star Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Jude Law and Zëe Kravitz.
