Republican Senator used bizarre props in the Senate - and got the meme treatment

A Republican senator got the meme treatment on Tuesday after he used some rather misguided props during a presentation that was aimed at owning the Democrats.

Senator Mike Lee, of Utah, attempted to take down Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Ed Markey's Green New Deal with a series of bizarre eccentric props to illustrate his points, including one stock photo of a group of babies, another with screenshots from the movie Sharknado, and a third of former president Ronald Raegan riding a velociraptor.

Yes, really.

He even proudly tweeted about it. In a tweet, he wrote:

The solution to climate change is not this unserious resolution, but the serious business of human flourishing – the solution to so many of our problems, at all times and in all places: fall in love, get married, and have some kids.

Right, sure thing, Mike. Yes, having some kids will definitely solve climate change. No problem at all.

One of the first people to respond was Ocasio-Cortez herself. In a tweet, she wrote:

Like many other women + working people, I occasionally suffer from impostor syndrome: those small moments, especially on hard days, where you wonder if the haters are right.

But then they do things like this to clear it right up.

If this guy can be Senator, you can do anything.

Other critics across social media expressed their surprise that the footage didn't appear to have been Photoshopped.

Some thought the whole thing was just quite simply bizarre.

While some thought it was hilarious...

Others thought it was funny, but not in a good way

And many pointed out that it seems like Republicans really just don't understand science.

It's not just politics in the UK that's gone completely and utterly insane...
