Pillow fight at US military school leads to 24 concussions, one broken leg

A pillow fight between new cadets at West Point, the US Military Academy, turned into something of a bloodbath after pillows were apparently stuffed with helmets.

Thirty first-year cadets were injured, including 24 with concussions, with at least one broken leg and one dislocated shoulder.

The pillow fight, an annual tradition aimed at bolstering camaraderie (hm...) took place on August 20 but was only recently confirmed to the New York Times.

Lt Col Christopher Kasker told the NYT: "West Point applauds the cadets' desire to build esprit and regrets the injuries to our cadets. We are conducting appropriate investigations into the causes of the injuries."

One unnamed older cadet also reportedly posted on social media: "My plebe [first-year cadet] was knocked unconscious and immediately began fighting when he came to. I was so proud I could cry."

What a time to be alive.
