A recent 'poll of polls' has shown a slight increase in support for the Green party, with small increases for Labour and the Conservatives.

John Curtice, professor of politics at Strathclyde University, who compiled the poll said the Greens' growth highlighted a fracturing of the vote on the Left as well as the Right.

Support for Ukip dipped two points in July, with the Liberal Democrats stuck in the political doldrums down on nine per cent but the two main parties have failed to capitalise on this.

Prof Curtice explained that one in eight former Lib Dems now planned to vote for the Greens.
