Twitter user Michelle Shampton is a self-confessed Republican. And that's fine, because being able to form and belive your own political views is an important part of a free society.
She did however, tweet this:
As a Republican in college, I am genuinely afraid to speak about my conservative views in fear of being stereotyped or labeled negatively— Michelle Shampton (@Michelle Shampton) 1489754666
So some members of the LGBT community decided to also share what they were scared of.
Aww. As a transgender woman, I am genuinely afraid of Republicans murdering me if I stop for gas in the wrong part… https://t.co/iTLleUuHJn— Extremily Gorcenski (@Extremily Gorcenski) 1490201831
@michelle_sham As Black trans woman I'm afraid for the trans kids and other people being harmed by GOP anti-trans hate speech— Monica Roberts (@Monica Roberts) 1490229534
As a lesbian in AL, I am genuinely scared for my safety when I hold my girlfriend's hand in public https://t.co/EafNrUMHL3— p (@p) 1490242816
Some of their friends and families chipped in as well.
@michelle_sham That's terrible. My lgbt friends are genuinely afraid of being murdered by Republicans. But your fear is totally important.— Patrick S. Tomlinson (@Patrick S. Tomlinson) 1490188729
@michelle_sham I'm scared of my LGBTQA friends being brutalized, their rights denied and taken, marriages invalidated, lives destroyed.— @WilsonFrontier 🖖🏻😷 (@@WilsonFrontier 🖖🏻😷) 1490223395
.@michelle_sham Interesting. I'm a mother of a gay child. I worry about the Republican platform that denies her humanity and right to exist.— Irritated Furiosa (@Irritated Furiosa) 1490188626
Pretty good points, tbf.
