Sajid Javid convinces reporter to get a booster jab during an interview

Sajid Javid convinced a reporter to go and get his booster jab while he was being interviewed on Monday.

While the two were preparing for an interview at St Thomas’ Hospital vaccination centre last night, the health secretary asked political correspondent Jon Craig whether he had had his booster, then ended up escorting him to the centre when he revealed he hadn’t.

He said: “Have you got boosted yet?”

Craig replied: “No I’m 64 and I’ve still not had it.”

Javid said: “You haven’t? Why not?”

Craig explained that he had Covid earlier in the year meaning he only got his second jab in June. Under the old rules, this means he would have to wait until December - a six month wait - to get his booster jab.

As of yesterday, the gap between doses has been cut to three months meaning it was completely fine for Craig to get a dose of the vaccine and Javid urged him to come back as soon as he could to get it.

“They might give it to you now if you walk in,” Javid said.

“I’ve got to go back to work though,” Craig replied.

“Yeah just do it. Can you make me a promise? Make me a promise, just go do it now. Bonus. Bonus. No, no. I’ll tell the office.”

After Craig agreed, Javid then offered to go in with him and escorted him to the centre where Craig presumably got jabbed.

Reacting to clips of the exchange, which circulated on social media, people thought it was a pretty heartwarming scene, though some thought it may have been set up:

Now, everyone over the age of 18 is eligible to book a booster jab - providing there has been a three month gap between doses of course. Go get it done - or you will risk ending up with Saj holding your hand during it.
