A man has been charged with harassment and obstruction after he was filmed shouting racially abusive words at a black man in Seattle.
Keoke Silvano filmed the incident, with the video quickly going viral.
The man, who has been identified as Steve Jay Watts, repeatedly says the racist word ‘n****r’ and can be heard shouting :
White men built these streets. White people are going to bury you! No cameras n****r, I run this country. You guys are dead!
The black man could be heard responding with ‘I ain’t gonna put my hands on – I’m gonna kill your bitch ass.'
Silvano, who is Filipino, told Kiro7 News that he filmed the video to raise awareness about racism in his Seattle community.
He said:
It really says something about what our community as a whole have to deal with.
People of colour have to deal with [this] on a daily basis.
Watts, 35, was later arrested and appeared before the Seattle Municipal Court, where the judge noted his previous four assault convictions.
He pleaded not guilty, and told the judge:
I'm getting harassed everywhere I go in this country. Everywhere in this country I get harassed.
Watts is being held on a $10,000 bond and is due for court again on 25 June.
