The Simpsons has been on for so long that Bart should now be Homer's age and people feel old

Time, especially in cartoons, is completely meaningless. The entire Simpson family has never aged in the time they’ve been on screen, which is part of their charm.

Until you’re reminded of just how much time has actually passed IRL, and then you have to feel ancient. The show premiered in 1989, with Bart aged 9 and Homer aged 39.

However, adding some confusion to the mix, Simpsons producer and writer Al Jean tweeted that The Simpsons has been on the air for over 30 years, and Homer is still 39.

When the show began, Bart was supposedly born in 1980. That means that Bart is now technically the age Homer was when the show premiered, and we are all just marching towards an inevitable death.

Naturally, people are freaking out, especially people who were roughly Bart’s age in 1989:
