The most generous countries in the world have been revealed in an annual index by the Charities Aid Foundation.
Burma was the most generous of the 145 countries surveyed, which measured the proportion of people who had given to charity, who had volunteered their time, and who had helped a stranger in the past month.
Ninety-two per cent of Burmese respondents to the survey had made a donation to charity in the past month.
The top ten most generous countries, as found by the index, were as follows:
The UK came sixth in the index, now in it's sixth year, with a rounded score of 57 per cent.
Three quarters of people in the UK had donated money to charity in the past month, the highest in Europe and well above the global average of 31.5 per cent.
John Low, chief executive of CAF, said:
The UK has a long and proud tradition of being one of the world's most generous countries, and it is great to see that this spirit of generosity continues to grow.
