These are the most popular museums in London

An online poll has revealed the best museums to visit in London.

The Science Museum and the Natural History Museum tied for the honour of the museum most people wanted to visit when they came to the capital.

The survey by YouGov found that 73 per cent of respondents marked those two museums when asked: "Which of these museums do you think of as places you want to visit when you are in London?"

Of the given options Tate Britain came last, with only 30 per cent saying they would wish to visit the gallery when in the capital.

Respondents were also asked to select which two of the following they saw as the most important aims a museum should have.

The most commonly cited objective by respondents was preserving heritage, with 74 per cent of the public seeing this as an important purpose of museums.
